American-born Tara Sasiadek is a Buffalo-based artist whose paintings and installations investigate internal imagery, wordless communication, and weird-science using mixed-media and assembled-ephemera to pose alternate worlds for the exploration and interrogation of our basic assumptions about ourselves and our cultures.
Her works are an alchemy of hand-rendering with a collage and layering process which integrates a complex web of interrelated symbols and signifiers. She calls this metaphysical portraiture: approaching identity from within as a foil to our social-media driven external image projects.
The artist has studied philosophy, painting, and human development, and recently received her MFA in Visual Art from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She is a founding member and the current President of non-profit Emerging Leaders in the Arts Buffalo, and serves as the Creative Director to Lakeward Spirits distilling.
Her current bodies of work are Environments (site specifics installations) and Portals (layered multimedia paintings) which explore the paradoxes of our cultural moment: individual vs collective intelligence, gender norms in revision, and the strange border humanity places between ourselves and "nature." Tara is particularly fascinated by the philosophical implications of scientific frontiers, and the swift way our archetypes and myths are evolving to accommodate these new understandings.
